It’s believed this could have been taken at the club’s AGM in 1955, at the old school.
Pictured left to right are:
Back row standing: ?, Jack Harrison, Reg Horsley (landlord of the Spread Eagle), ?, Les Bradshaw, Ernie Kirk, Vint Pearson, Fred David, Herbert Jarman, Vere Coles, Reg Claypole, Bernard Crane, Jack Granger.
Third row: Norman ‘Tinker’ Harrison his brother Roy ‘Gunner’ Harrison, Sid Tew , Rolly Hammond or Norman ‘Joe’ Barby (?), Peter O’ Kieffe, Terry Bailey
Second row: Maurice Wilkinson, Clary Wilson (local bookmaker), Sam Harrison, Bob Loake, John Cutliff, Roy Jarman, Freddie Adams , Willie Brownlie, Len Perkins, Jack Panter, Rev Roberts “Glop”
Front row seated: Ron Claypole, LV Porter (Headmaster), Allston A Kisby (teacher), ?, ?
Irene Beadsworth tells us that Reverend Roberts was called ‘Glop’ because his initials were GWP. “The way he signed his name it looked like ‘Glop’, and it sort of stuck,” said Irene. “He was a very eccentric character to say the least!”
Annie Johnson has a great story from her mum, Joyce Bradshaw, who lived in The Nook and then at Crossbank House on Corby Road. Joyce told her that Roy ‘Gunner’ Harrison got his nickname from school, when he was known to say ‘I enner gunner do that’. Fascinating how these nicknames stick!

Uncle jack panter
Which one is your uncle Jack please Christine? x
Jack Panter – Front row standing, to the right of the seated gentleman.
Thank you Dale, have I added the name above in the right place please? Jane
The one next to Roy Harrison is Sid Tew, between Roy Jarman and my father is Freddie Adams and the other side is Len Perkins. Also where it says Rolly Hammond it looks a lot like Norman “Joe” Barby
Thank you Lindsay, I have added those names in 🙂 . Regards, Jane
