Memories – Tom Wilkinson

7 November 2023, Tom Wilkinson

Hello Jane,

I’m Tom Wilkinson and my dad’s name was Maurice Wilkinson who along with the rest of his family lived in Cottingham, the Nook. It was my Nanna, Margaret Hannah Wilkinson and Thomas Wilkinson who moved there. The children grew up in Cottingham and the boys are in the 1933 school photograph.

My grandfather died in 1948, I never knew him. Margaret Hannah and Thomas Wilkinson lived there along with children Margret Irene (Rene), Harold, Maurice and Ken. In 1953 she married retired policeman Thomas Alwyn Davis. My uncle Ken married Silvia Derry (Silv), who still lives in the village, as do some of her children. My cousin Ian and his wife Shirley live near to my Aunt Silv.

Everyone knows Silv, I’m sure she worked as a barmaid in the Spread Eagle, and for a short time I used to be in the same quiz team along with my cousin Ian and Shirley. I cannot remember the year of the football presentation, but my dad Maurice is left front row, standing with his jacket open and white shirt and tie visible. I live in Corby. But I still love the village.

  1. Hi Tom,

Thank you so much for sending this picture. I’ve not seen this one before 😊 . I remember Silv from the pub quizzes at the Spread Eagle, so maybe we have met?

    Regards, Jane
