Bury Close

Bury Close was built in the early 1960s on land that used to be the Spinney belonging to Bury House. The three photos below from Mary Freestone show Bury Close under construction.

Whilst excavating for the drive to the first bungalow in Bury Close (on the right hand side at the entrance to the close) in 1961, a Roman hypocaust system (an early form of underfloor heating) and pieces of Roman pottery were discovered. As the adjacent bungalow had already been built when the Roman remains were discovered, construction was allowed to continue.
