In days gone by, Cottingham and Middleton has been home to a whole host of tradespeople, local services, retail outlets, farms and dairies, serving villagers’ every need and providing employment.
Many longstanding villagers will tell you that you could get everything you wanted without needing to go out of the villages. There was a Doctor’s surgery, numerous shops, bakeries and pubs, a hairdressers and even a local bookmaker and undertaker at one time.
