The Crown Inn, Cottingham

The Crown Inn stood on the corner of Rockingham Road and School Lane as far back as the 1840s until it was demolished in the 1960s. The Crown didn’t have a spirits license and only sold beer.

The 1953 photograph above shows Mrs Kisby, wife of the village schoolmaster, waiting for a bus! The third photograph shows the Crown (on the right in front of the pub sign), with the original Spread Eagle in the background. The building between the Spread Eagle and The Crown is the old Manor House (Manor Farm), which stood on the site of the Spread Eagle car park until the 1960s.
